  1. A Genre is a term that can mean Kind, Sort, or style that can be applied to media & art.

  • Sorts of Novels

  • Sorts of Films/Televisions/Shows

  • Sorts of Music


  1. The umbrella term used to group like things/terms together.


  1. A genre cannot be defined by features or markers rather these are looked at as helpful insights.


  1. A genre is considered an act of language.


  1. A genre is a recurring type of communication. An example of this being going to school. Everyday you're doing some form of the same thing you did the day prior, but everything you're required to do at school is to better help you learn. Therefore, learning is the genre. 


  1. Writers are able to adapt as well and reshape said genre, this in turn affects the stability of the genre.


  1. “A genre is built into the writing situation.”


  1. A category you can allow to shape you or your writing. It can also be something you can choose to adapt as your own.


  1. Genres are able to fit into larger genres making possibilities for this concept endless.

  1.  Genres are all about interpretation. In theory they’re not really just another social construct we’ve made as a society to group one another easily.
