7/22/25 College Calculus
“Earning a post-secondary degree or credential is no longer just a pathway to opportunity for a talented few,”
The idea that education is now becoming more available to others is still questionable. This makes me think about the “What is the point of college?” and how they spoke about college still being so unaffordable to many.
“Despite the increasing costs—and the claims about a shortage of college graduates—the number of people attending and graduating from four-year educational institutions keeps going up.”
This seems to be a recurring topic. That being the affordability of college. Going to Syracuse costs around 92,000 dollars which is insane for a 4-year education. Most of the colleges I applied to were around that price too. Making the ability to go not feasible for many. Not to mention the price of applications can be upwards of 50 dollars.
“Many students and their families extend themselves to pay for a college education out of fear of falling into the low-wage economy.”
With the rise in prices for living in America its understandable that for many getting a college degree is important to get ahead of others. But on the downside college is extremely expensive. Many fall into debt because of the price of college making the return for many degrees not worth it.
