7/23/25 Final Draft Pt 1

     The Pattern: College Edition

A pattern that I saw according to the data was that socializing in college is important to many. The first question on the data sheet is “What are you looking forward to in your college experience?” 78.3 percent of people chose socializing. They choose this option over networking, career opportunities, and club sports.

There was another question that said, “How important are extracurricular activities in the college experience?” 47.8 percent of people rated that a 4 out of 5. Meaning many believe extracurricular activities are very important. This pattern in the data came as a shock to me. Seeing as how the many discussions around if college is necessary or not is related to the price. I was astonished to see that many believe the most important part of college is socialization.

With that from my own experience I chose my college not only based on financials but also the social aspect. Coming from a very small private girls school, I wanted a very large sports school that was vastly diverse. I wanted to go somewhere that had many options for things to do outside of the classroom. When making this decision I had believed I was the only one that thought like this. Which is why the data we found in our survey was so surprising.

This pattern made me feel understood and that I didn't choose Syracuse for the wrong reasons. Seeing other people in similar situations created a sense of community that I so badly wanted here at Syracuse.

  1. I would give your post a B plus. You clearly introduced the survey questions and pointed out a strong pattern in the data about how much people value socializing. I liked how you used exact percentages to support your analysis and how you shared your reaction to the results. That made your voice feel genuine. To make it even stronger, you could develop the final part a little more by connecting it to your own experience or explaining why this pattern matters beyond just being surprising. Overall, your writing was clear, and you did a good job identifying a meaningful trend in the responses.

  2. I would give myself a B. Although I clearly introduced what I planned to cover from the survey, I feel I could have used more examples and gone more into depth. I also need to add an outside source. The biggest thing is to expand more on my ideas. - Brooklyn

  3. I thought your reflection was clear and straight to the point. You did a great job showing how important socializing is to students based on the data. I liked how you connected both survey questions to show that social life and extracurriculars really matter. Your surprise at the results made the reflection more personal, and it helped show your own thinking. If anything, maybe just add a short quote from a student next time to make it feel even more real.
