9/6/25 Unit 2 pt 3 final

  1. The main thing I feel I learned or accomplished in this unit is a better understanding why college is important. I feel like coming into college many people think that it's solely academics but from the data that we collected we were able to learn that that's not the case. A lot of people chose their college based on the social aspects and what it has to offer in terms of clubs, friends, sports internships etc.

  2. Analyzing survey data and/or visual representation is similar to analyzing a written text because both of these involve needing to analyze what the main idea is in order to understand said data. I would say it's different because one most likely would involve pictures whereas the other is more of the analysis of graphs or statistics. I used to struggle with trying to figure out what the main idea is when analyzing data. This unit gave me the opportunity to use something I struggled with and work to be better at it. I would struggle with reaching out to people to survey them but with this unit if I wanted to pass I needed to leap out of my comfort zone and meet new people. I think my analysis skills developed in the way of asking better questions. Since I was now more comfortable going up to people and asking questions it gave me the ability to follow up on these questions to get precise answers. When we first did the survey of asking people around campus one question my group had to do 15 people. Which gave us a good amount of data but I honestly wish we would have asked more people and this is because it would have given us a wider pool of data to analyze.

  3. For me, reading my classmates' work gave me a chance to see how others analyze things. I found it interesting that even though we all came from different schools and have different understandings of how to analyze and what it is. The person that did the same ad as me had a similar thought process as to why they chose it and what they got from it.

For example, Abril chose ECU’s ad as well and she talks about the reason she chose it is because she found the video to be visually engaging. She stated “The unique angles and shots, animation, music, sounds effects and visual effects made this ad stand out from all the others”  This stood out to me because it was exactly why I chose ECU’s ad. After watching the others I was so bored but with ECU I was drawn in just like Abril.

Similar to Abril and I, Maria chose her ad because she stated “It was energetic and full of purpose, and it immediately made me think about the kind of impact a student can make while still in college.”  This quote stood out to me because although it's different and her reasoning for choosing it was similar to mine. Her point of stating that students can still make a big impact even when in college. This made me think about how so many people go to college to make their mark on the world and you summarized that idea perfectly.

I really liked how Kimora talked about the concept of college ad being memorable. She stated  “This ad is intriguing because it combines fantastical elements with a sense of adventure, making it memorable and engaging.” Her analysis of this ad was fascinating. Similar to Maria, Abril, and I she states that she chose this ad because it stood out to her visually.

My take away from looking at everyone else's blogs was the reasoning for the choosing of their specific ads was mainly based off of the visuals the ad showed. Then within their analysis they each broke down why these visuals stood out to them.

  1. If I'm being completely honest, my views on “what is college for?” didn't change. Going into this unit I had the clear understanding that college is important because it's how we essentially “level up” to a higher tax bracket. I felt college was important for expanding who you are as a person. You're being immersed into a brand new way of living. For many of us on our own, surrounded by new cultures, and ways of thinking. It's your first experience as an adult and you have full control over what you make of it.

  1. I decided to share my blog/unit 3 part 3 draft with my Aunt Maureen. She and I are very close and growing up she always helped me with my academics. Some of the key takeaways that i got from her were one, she stated that she enjoyed the fact that I chose to use my personal voice as though she was listening to my thoughts as I wrote them down. She said it felt casual but still had big key ideas like a blog should. My aunt also stated that it may be a little easier for the reader if I broke up the paragraphs so they weren't so big. I will not be doing this mainly because I choose to do bullet points to respond to each question individually. She found the part about me talking about stepping out of my comfort zone to be fascinating because she always sees me as an extravert and believes that now that I'm in a new environment I've become more shy. - Brooklyn
